As a matter of fact, National Fire Protection Association has recommended that every home needs to have a smoke alarm installed in the bedrooms and other spaces of the home. These fire alarms should be present at every level of the home.


Fire extinguisher
Fire extinguisher is another very important item to have in your home. The most common place for a fire extinguisher is the kitchen due to the fact that it is the place that frequently deals with the fire. However, you need at least two fire extinguishers in your home. You can place one extinguisher in the kitchen while the second one can be placed in the garage.


It is important to note that you need to keep the extinguisher properly filled. Moreover, you need to have proper knowhow about how to use an extinguisher. However, you need to keep it in mind that old extinguishers should not be refilled without proper checking. That’s because of the leaky heads of the extinguishers. The plastic or nylon heads of fire extinguishers do not remain functional forever. Therefore, it is important replace the units with the metal heads.

Evacuation plan
Having an evacuation plan can help you and your family members to remain unhurt when the fire breaks out. A fire exit from the home can be quite effective in this regard. You also need to have a practice to reach the exit doors so that you could do it easily in the time of emergency. You also need to have ladders to get out through windows. This option is specifically beneficial if you have children and elders in your home.
